Battery storage

What battery storage is included with a WindWhisperer turbine?

Every WindWhisperer 100 Max includes 430 kWh LFP of integrated lithium battery storage. Every WindWhisperer 50 includes 215 kWh LFP. Storage is standard equipment, included in the turbine price — not an optional add-on.

The batteries store excess wind generation for later use, smooth out wind variability, enable off-grid operation during blackouts, and provide a buffer between your turbine and the grid.

Why storage is standard

Storage solves a fundamental timing problem: wind does not blow when you need electricity. A turbine generates most power on windy nights or blustery afternoons — periods when your home or business may not have high consumption. Without storage, that generated power either goes unused (in off-grid mode) or flows straight to the grid (in grid-connected mode) with only a feed-in tariff as return.

Storage lets you shift that power in time: charge the battery when the wind is strong, discharge it when demand peaks. The effect is a better alignment between generation and consumption, fewer grid exports (and fewer low-tariff periods), and energy security during grid outages.

For farms, commercial sites, and urban installations, integrated storage is also simpler than retrofitting batteries later. A single inverter/charger unit manages both turbine and battery, with unified monitoring and control.

Technology: lithium-ion chemistry

The included battery is lithium-ion (LiFePO₄, or iron-phosphate chemistry). This chemistry is chosen for:

The battery is housed in a weatherproof cabinet with integral temperature control, monitoring electronics, and inverter/charger. Installation is straightforward: the unit connects to the turbine's DC output and your home or building's main electrical panel.

Capacity, scaling, and runtime

A WindWhisperer 100 Max generates ~230 MWh of energy per year in typical wind conditions. The included 430 kWh LFP battery stores enough energy for 4–8 hours of continuous load at full discharge, depending on your consumption pattern.

For a home consuming 15–25 kWh per day, the battery covers:

For a farm or commercial site, storage scales differently — the battery buffers variable generation against variable demand, smoothing peaks and troughs.

Storage capacity is configurable. If your site has seasonal demand spikes or needs more off-grid resilience, larger batteries can be integrated. The standard configuration balances cost, space, and practical utility.

Off-grid and grid-tied modes

Grid-tied mode (the standard configuration): The turbine generates, the battery stores excess, and the grid acts as a secondary store. If the battery is full and wind is strong, surplus power exports to the grid. If the battery is depleted and wind is weak, the grid supplies your load. You benefit from feed-in tariffs when exporting, and you have grid backup when storage runs low.

Off-grid mode (possible but not the default): The battery is your only source. During calm periods when both turbine and battery are depleted, you lose power — unless you have a backup generator or grid connection. This mode is only suitable for sites with reliable wind patterns (coastal, elevated, exposed locations).

Most installations use grid-tied mode, which gives the best of both worlds: a renewable generation and storage system with grid reliability.

Battery management and monitoring

The inverter/charger continuously monitors:

You monitor this via an app or web interface, seeing real-time generation, battery level, consumption, and grid import/export. Historical data helps you understand your energy patterns and optimise consumption.

Battery maintenance is minimal — the system is sealed and requires no active maintenance. Lithium batteries degrade slowly over time; after 10–15 years, the battery retains 80–90% of original capacity. Replacement batteries are standardised, affordable, and quick to swap.

Integration with solar or other generation

If you already have solar panels, the WindWhisperer 100 Max and its battery integrate seamlessly:

This hybrid approach is more resilient and reduces grid demand more than either source alone.

Specifications and standards

The battery meets:

The system is certified for domestic, agricultural, and commercial use in the UK, Sweden, and Scandinavia. Warranty is typically 10 years on battery capacity (covering degradation below 80%).
